About the LDC3400

The Eaton Cutler-Hammer LDC3400 is a molded case circuit breaker with an ultra-high interrupt rating of 200 kiloamps interrupt capacity at a voltage of 240 Volts AC. Additionally, the LDC3400 has an interrupt rating of 50 kiloamps interrupt capacity at 600 Volts and 100 kiloamps interrupt capacity at 480 Volts AC. When protecting a 250 Volts DC powered circuit, the LDC3400 has an interrupt rating of 30 kiloamps interrupt capacity. Under AC voltage, the circuit breaker has a frequency rating of between 50 and 60 Hertz. The circuit breaker uses a fixed thermal and fixed magnetic mechanism for the trip unit. Since the circuit breaker has an L Frame size, the trip unit is replaceable only when the breaker is field assembled. Also, the breaker can accommodate a direct handle mechanism.

If the LDC3400 is intended for reverse feed use, it should be factory assembled and sealed. The current rating for the circuit breaker is capped at 400 Amps. The LDC3400 has 3 poles, making it suitable for 3-phase powered systems. The maximum operating temperature for the circuit breaker stands at 40 degrees Celsius. Note that the circuit breaker houses line and load side lug terminals. By having a molded case, the Eaton LDC3400 circuit breaker should be subjected to regular check-ups to check for malfunctioning. Things to look out for include rusty terminals and a discolored molded case. During the checkup, a manual trip should be induced to monitor if the unit has any delays.  A faulty tripping unit should be replaced if the LDC3400 was field assembled, or the whole breaker should be replaced if the breaker was factory assembled. The LDC3400, as with other circuit breakers from Eaton, can be freeze tested at as low as -40 degrees Celsius. However, this test is only done upon request.
